Happy May everyone! The sun is shining, the heat is rising, and that means summer is just around the corner. There’s one thing that comes to many peoples minds during the summer season besides the beach and the golf course. This summer activity is one that can make your mouth water….and that is grilling up some of your favorite foods on the barbecue!
To name a few, grilled meats such as chicken or steak, fish and vegetables taste great grilled and can make the absolute best summer meals. All winter long I glanced at the grill outside my backyard window, wishing for the warm weather to kick in. Well, enough already with the oven baked fish or meat on a skillet….it’s grilling season!
Now that you are hungry from reading this blog, you probably want to get out to the backyard tonight or this weekend to start grilling. Being that we are part of the insurance industry, we do have to discuss some risks that come along with the fun of barbecuing. A barbecue can be a serious fire hazard, especially with an open flame going. Making sure that your grill is placed in a non-hazardous location is very important. Most barbecues are placed on a deck or a patio and that is fine, but it is necessary that it is kept away from flammable objects such as dry wood, overhanging branches, or wicker furniture. These are all very quick to go into flames if you aren’t careful.
Hopefully a barbecue fire never happens at your home, but in the case that it does, VRP’s homeowner insurance will help you through it all.
